Referendums to be on Morgan County Ballot
Morgan County Commissioners announced this morning they received enough signatures to file petitions to ask voters if the tax levy for the county’s tuberculosis clinic should be discontinued.
Commission chairman Bill Meier says road district volunteers collected 496 signatures from 9 of the county’s 12 districts. Three-hundred-eighty-eight signatures from 8 districts were required.
The county board certified the petitions and turned them over to County Clerk Jill Waggener.
Meier says Morgan County is one of only two in the state with a TB Clinic separate from the Health Department.
“We’re not going to do away with the care and treatment but we will put the care and treatment of tuberculosis into the health department which is how about everybody else in the state does it now,” says Meier.
Meier says there have only been three cases of TB in Morgan County in the last three years.
