Man injured during JPD arrest
Jacksonville Police Chief Tony Grootens says 31-year-old Ryan Griggs suffered cuts to his nose and redness to his forehead when he was arrested at about 10:15 near Hamilton’s Catering at 110 North East. Grootens says Griggs did not require medical treatment.
Griggs was arrested for aggravated battery for allegedly twisting an officer’s thumb during the arrest. He was also arrested for resisting a peace officer for refusing to produce identification.
Grootens says the arresting officer was Sergeant Doug Thompson. According to Grootens, as Griggs continued to twist Thompson’s thumb, Thompson applied pressure to the back of Griggs’ knee forcing him to the ground.
Thompson did not need medical treatment.
Griggs has been released on bond.
