Urban League holding program orientation

The organization is holding program orientation for the Male Involvement Program every Tuesday at the Jacksonville Goodwill store at 1809 West Morton. Larry Hemingway is program trainer for the Springfield Urban League. He says the organization offers Case Management Services, Work Readiness Services, G. E. D. Services, Nurturing Father’s Classes, and Marriage and Parenting Classes to men and women in Morgan, Sangamon and Macon Counties.
“With the Male Involvement program our main focus is family reunification," says Hemingway. "We have a three-pronged approach. All of our activities are centered around healthy relationships, economic stability and responsible parenting. I'm not saying ones that are a part of the program are parents but all of us that are parents could use some more tools to add to arsenal."
Hemingway says participants don’t have to be parents to benefit from the program. He says all people are welcome to the program orientation regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or religion.
“I’ll collect information and for those that are interested and qualify, I'll do follow-ups," says Hemingway. "We'll have supporting documents and other paperwork that's needed. They'll be assigned a case manager and within 48 hours there will be a follow-up. In fact, we schedule a calendar of trainings and workshop sessions. In addition, we're looking to schedule some other skill set training with those that are interested."
Hemingway says the orientation will happen every Tuesday at the city’s Goodwill store for at least several more weeks. Check out www.springfieldul.org for more information.
