Man convicted of stealing weight plates from county
Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Stevens of the 15-hundred block of Mount Zion Road was sentenced in Morgan County Court today to 150 days in jail on two counts of theft and one count of retail theft. The sentences will run concurrently.
Morgan County Deputies reported that someone broke into the shed in Chapin on December 15th, 2011 and stole twelve tractor weight plates. The plates had an estimated value of $10,680.
Stevens was also convicted of stealing power tools and tire rims from Tom Finch Automotive on West Walnut. The incident happened on September 26th of last year.
The retail theft was a separate incident that had occurred in November 2010.
Stevens was also fined $1,100 and ordered to pay $1,400 in restitution. He was ordered to serve two years of probation.
