IC awarded Monticello grant

The scholarships are known as the Monticello College Foundation Scholarships in memory of Myrtie T. Dixson. Illinois College will receive a $24,500 grant to provide the scholarships.
Monticello College was a women’s college located in Godfrey from 1838 to 1970 and had a strong historical relationship with Illinois College. The Reverend Theron Baldwin, one of Illinois College’s founders, was the first principal of the
Monticello Female Seminary, as Monticello College was known in its early years.
The Monticello College Foundation was founded in 1970, when the college sold its campus to Lewis and Clark Community College. The Foundation has funded scholarships for 112 Illinois College students since its inception. Current scholarship recipients are senior Jaci Forsythe from Manito, senior Whitney Hedden from Galesburg, sophomore Charlotte Michels from Big Lake, Minnesotea, senior Lisa Miller from Elkhart, sophomore Amber Riley from St. Charles, Missouri, first-year student Rebecca Weil from Kingston and senior Rachel Walther from St. Louis.
