117 board looks for more public input on budget

The board has set aside an hour and a half of time during the committee of the whole meeting to allow for comments regarding the board’s proposed budget reductions. A special meeting earlier this month produced about $1.4-million in potential cuts.

Reception of public comments will begin at 6 p.m.

The regularly-scheduled meeting to follow will not include any action on the potential cuts. District 117 interim superintendent Dr. Barbara Suelter says those could be voted on next month.

Suelter says people have been leaving comments on the district’s web site and can continue to do so as a way of being part of the discussion.

Also at tonight’s meeting, the board will discuss and vote on moving forward with a proposed project to install artificial turf at Kraushaar-Rosenberger Field. The idea was first brought up at last month’s meeting by Jacksonville High School football coach Mark Grounds.

Tonight’s meeting is in the JHS media room.
