Woman ok after alleged kidnapping
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department received a call to the school at about 3:30 yesterday afternoon from the school’s principal, who was concerned about one of her employees after she left the building and went into a van.
Deputy Tom Keegan says the woman, in her 40s, was forced into the van in the school’s parking lot by 52-year-old Toni Hill of the 300 block of West Greenwood and 19-year-old McKenzie Hill of the 700 block of West Beecher in Jacksonville.
She was then apparently forced to drive herself to a residence associated with one of the suspects in Murrayville and kept there by force for about a half hour. Keegan says personal items were taken from her during that time. She was then released, went back to the school and called police.
No weapons were used in the alleged kidnapping. The woman, who is not being identified, was apparently threatened with violence, but did not suffer any injuries that required medical treatment.
Keegan says the incident was not random and that one of the Hills knew the woman, but he wouldn’t say which one.
District 117 interim superintendent Barbara Suelter called the situation a domestic problem and added that the woman resigned from her position at Murrayville Elementary after the incident.
Keegan says both Toni and McKenzie Hill turned themselves in after becoming aware that authorities were searching for them. Both women are being held without bond at the Morgan County Jail. More charges may be filed.
There were no students still at the school at the time of the incident.
Corrected at 5:20 a.m. to reflect that the kidnappers were women, and to correct the spelling of Toni Hill's first name.
