Bowl For Kids' Sake event starts tonight

The 51st Annual “Bowl For Kids’ Sake” fundraiser takes place at the Bowl Inn at 224 North East tonight and tomorrow. Individual members of bowling teams compete on the lanes and to see who can raise the most money for the organization.

The actions starts tonight at 6:00 and 7:30. Program director Paula Belobrajdic-Stewart says the last two sessions tonight at 9:00 and 10:30 are reserved for high school students.

“There are twelve lanes at the Bowl Inn, so we try to have six on a team on each lane. Those are totally booked for 9:00 and 10:30,” says Belobradjdic-Stewart. “We do have a few openings tonight for 6:00 and 7:30, so anyone who’s still interested- it’s never too late to come sign up. [There’s a] $25 dollar minimum to bowl; that will get you our new t-shirt and also food, which is being donated by Hamilton’s’ for us tonight.”

Belobradjdic-Stewart says the response this year has been great. She says this is one of the biggest fundraisers for Big Brothers of Big Sisters West Central Illinois.

“We’ve had some really cool fundraisers throughout the year. Our executive director Cindy Denby likes to add new and fresh [events], but Bowl for Kids Sake is a staple. It’s part of our national agency,” she says. “That’s our one annual thing we do that’s generally our biggest and most well-received. So, we’re always very excited at Bowl for Kid’s Sake time.”

Saturday bowling times are 1:30, 3:00, 4:30 and 6 p-m.

There will be special drawings this weekend for things like iPads and Wal-Mart gift cards. Belobradjdic-Stewart says the more money you raise, the better chance you have of winning those items.
