District 117 might still cut charter funding

The board will revisit reducing student-level funding for 8 Points Charter School. A special meeting in February produced about $1.4 million in potential cuts. 8 Points was the only budget reduction item the school board did not vote in favor of cutting.

Last month’s meeting also produced a set of fee increases, one of which will require a public hearing. The school board will vote tonight on a date for a hearing to increase the driver education fee.

The board will also discuss the sale of Franklin Elementary School. Members will vote on a resolution regarding whether the school is necessary for future district use.

The board also will vote to authorize the preparation of a tentative budget for 2013-2014.

There will also be a second reading of proposed high school graduation requirement changes.

The biggest change starting with the class of 2017 would be the physical education requirement increasing from two-and-a-half to four credits. Elective requirements would move from eight-and-a-quarter to nine-and-three-quarters.

There is no committee of the whole meeting prior to tonight’s meeting. Things get underway at 7:00 at Jacksonville High School.
